Dear ECHNO 2020 delegate,

The recent developments concerning the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) have made us to decide to move the European Congress on Head and Neck Oncology (ECHNO 2020) from May 6-9, 2020 to:

Wednesday 26 – Saturday 29 August 2020.

The venue & city will be remain the same: Brussels Square Convention Center, Brussels, Belgium.

EORTC LOGO

The EORTC head and neck cancer group and elderly task force developed a questionnaire to investigate treatment patterns in elderly head and neck cancer patients.

The aim of this survey is to investigate how elderly patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (LA-HNSCC) are treated across Europe.

MakeSenseCampaign
The Make Sense campaign plans for this year are in full swing, with the Awareness Week less than 2 months away! This year the Awareness Week is taking place from 18 – 22 September. The theme of the Campaign in 2017 is Supporting Survivorship, with activities focusing on improving the lives of head and neck cancer survivors.
Upcoming Activities

As well as a number of activities taking place at the national level during the Awareness Week, the Secretariat are working with the European Cancer Patient Coalition (ECPC), to organise an event on September 18 at European Parliament. In line with this year’s theme of Supporting Survivorship, the event will aim to promote the interests of head and neck cancer survivors in Europe, and lay the groundwork for unified guidelines to be developed, to ultimately help patients ‘live better, live longer’.

The Secretariat are currently working with European Head and Neck Society (EHNS) Secretary General, Professor Wojciech Golusinski, to host a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) session, which will take place as part of the pre-congress courses at ORL-HNS, in Barcelona on October 7. While discussions are still in the early stages, the aim of the session is to encourage healthcare professionals from a range of disciplines related to head and neck, to challenge the conventional methods of treating head and neck cancer patients, and discuss how to better work together to identify and adopt the best MDT approach.

New Partnerships

The Make Sense campaign were also pleased to announce a partnership with a new industry sponsor, Norgine, with the partnership being made official last month. Norgine is a leading European specialist pharmaceutical company with a direct commercial presence in a number of European markets. The collaboration with Norgine will focus on raising awareness of sentinel lymph node biopsy, mapping and identification in head and neck cancer treatment, and also highlight the importance of nuclear medicine as a critical part of the MDT.

Additionally, EHNS President, Professor René Leemans is going to be discussing a potential collaboration with the European Association of Nuclear Medicine. The collaboration will look to explore the role that nuclear medicine physicians can play in an MDT approach, ultimately improving outcomes for patients.
